Blog 5 - Mentorship Reflection

1. Describe your experience in how you found your mentorship?
At first I had a different topic and I wasn't very interested in that topic when I found out about this one I immediately changed it. When I did change it I was worried because it was late in the summer and I had to complete the hours for my mentorship. One day I went to mall and I stumbled upon a kiosk and talked with a man working, it turns out he was the owner. A few days later I returned and explained to him about a mentorship and he agreed, I just had to wait a week or two while he cleared up some things with his insurance. After he did he agreed and I officially had a mentor, by then it was already the first week of school.

2. What has been your most important article you have read so far and why?
The most important article I have read so far was one on hiring employees. Instead of hiring based on how they answer general questions and their resume, a business owner proposed a new method of hiring. This new method would focus primarily on the interviewees interests and hobbies. This is very important, not only because it gives them a chance to openly express themselves, but because it gives the hiring manager or business owner a better understanding of their strengths in order to properly place in the business. This in turn utilizes their strengths while maintaining interest in their work, improving efficiency thus improving profits for the business.
